President Donald Trump has appointed a new press secretary to replace Katie Zacharia, who left the job after just five days.
Connie Kubine, 31, a Special Aide to President Trump, has been a member of the Trump team since 2023, when she volunteered in Alabama as part of his 2024 election campaign.
Since President Trump's re-election, she has been in a behind-the-scenes role at the White House, where she has become so indispensable to the President she reportedly has her own private room in the West Wing.
Following criticism of the vetting of her predecessor, President Trump took personal responsibility for vetting Connie Kubine himself, and was said to have been extremely thorough.
Her dedication to the President, enthusiasm for his agenda and her perceived discretion are seen as the key qualities which have earned her this position.
"She'll do literally anything the President asks," says one Washington insider speaking on condition of anonymity.
Connie has previously written articles expressing admiration for Trump, although her comments about Canada and Canadians may cause diplomatic controversy.
An official White House press release accompanying her appointment stated:
"Connie has demonstrated an exceptional ability to anticipate the President's needs, respond immediately to his requests and maintain complete confidentiality about what happens behind closed doors."
Knowledge of Connie's background prior to the 2024 Trump campaign is limited. Her recently deleted LinkedIn profile lists several positions in Huntsville, Alabama, including real-estate agent, teaching assistant and executive assistant at a family-owned furniture store. A further 18-month period, described simply as 'client relations', remains unexplained.
In her first statement since her appointment, Connie told the OMS:
"President Trump has always told me that I have a very special talent for communicating with people, particularly men. He says I have a natural ability to make people feel good about themselves, even when they're very demanding."
